Our history

Welcome to The Horseshoe, a public house that is set in a Grade II listed building, that dates back to the 15th Century! As a town, Chipping Sodbury dates back to the 12th Century, so The Horseshoe building really is part of the furniture! For more information on the history of Chipping Sodbury, please click here.

Legend has it, the pub is haunted, and being so old, it may well be! There are also some fantastic features, such as a sink in our cellar that is said to be over 500 years old, and some believe there to be a hidden room in our cellar too. We think this only adds to the character of the pub, and you never know, one day we might find the hidden room!!

Although the building itself is one of the oldest in Chipping Sodbury, the pub has been recently renovated and tastefully decorated throughout to enhance its original features and maintain its standing as part of the history of Chipping Sodbury.

When you step inside The Horseshoe for the first time, its charm will hit you instantly, and you’ll be greeted by our friendly team, and the character of the place will be clear to see. If it’s nippy outside, we’ll even have the open fire going, so it really will be a warm welcome you receive!

If you’ve not stopped in for a drink or a bite to eat yet, you’re missing out, so pop in and see just how charming The Horseshoe is, and ask the team all about the history of the pub!
